This activity helps children develop motor planning and visual perception skills, a precursor to skills like tying shoes. Practicing with large beads makes it easier to achieve this task. To simplify even further, you can use a shoelace or pipe cleaner instead of string as they provide a bit more firmness, and make it easier to lace the bead on. Yumi laced two beads on ONE TIME, and never showed any interest past this! I plan to continue invitations to this work as it is a pretty valuable skill for little fingers to practice!
