Yumi’s interest in daily life objects really started to show at 13 months, particularly with my wallet. So I found an old one of mine, collected a blend of real life items, like a photo of mommy and daddy, some old subscription passes, and toy credit cards and coins. Put inside for Yumi to pull out, observe, and put back in. She was very into the zipper aspect, and the coins were an added bonus to retrieve once she got the zipper open, but she really loved the photo! Now she is capable of getting her little fingers in to pull the items out, but has not necessarily mastered opening the little space with her fingers to slide the items back in with ease. This is a great exercise for developing that pincer grasp that she’ll need later for holding a pencil/writing.
